A suburban Atlanta woman died after she left her car to look at a snake on the road in Great Smoky Mountains National Park late Friday.
Shirley Jean Alexander Clifton, 64, of Woodstock, Ga., was hit by an oncoming car at about 11:30 p.m. along Foothills Parkway West, near Chilhowee Lake in Tennessee, park officials said.
Nothing indicates the oncoming driver was at fault, officials said. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is assisting rangers with the investigation.
