A three-inch snowfall on Sunday led to several hikers being stranded on the Appalachian Trail near Clingmans Dome Road in the Great Smoky Mountains.
Park rangers were initially called in to help a hiker who was having chest pains near Mount Collins Shelter. During the hike to assist him they came across two more groups of hikers who also needed assistance in getting back down the mountain.
Park spokeswoman Molly Shroer stated that the hikers were unprepared for the snowfall that fell in the area of the trail they were on.
Everyone was safely removed from the mountain and no one required hospitalization.
