A 23-year old hiker is in stable condition after injuring himself while hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park Friday afternoon. Rangers responded to a call reporting that a man was suffering from a possible broken ankle on the Miry Ridge Trail near the Appalachian Trail.
A Tennessee Highway Patrol helicopter was dispatched to transport the hiker to receive medical care but weather delayed the airlift until the morning of August 8th, so rangers stayed with the hiker overnight.
He was eventually flown out around noon on Saturday to the Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge Airport, where he was taken by ambulance to Leconte Medical in stable condition.
