Officials at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park have announced the temporary closure of the Cades Cove Loop Road in January in order to complete hazard tree removal.
From January 6-8 and January 13-15 the road will be closed to all motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists.
“We regret the inconvenience to Cades Cove visitors,” said Acting Superintendent Clay Jordan. “We chose mid-week dates in early January when visitation is expected to be low to accomplish the needed work, but we realize that some visitors will be disappointed.”
Trees will also be removed from the Cades Cove Campground during this time. However, the campground will remain open but campers may be relocated during the process.
